Yet Con – Chicken Rice

Over another weekend where the weather blew hot and cold, or actually just hot and wet, my friend introduced me to this dingy little shop along Purvis Street. That dingy little shop is Yet Con, home of the biggest, fattest and meatiest steamed chicken for Singapore’s favourite dish – ji fan a.k.a. chicken rice.

The interior is really old fashioned and gives a nice feeling of traditionalism. Too bad I couldn’t take any photos cause I left my phone in my friends house so I was without a phone over the long weekend. The food however did not quite live up to the hype which my friend set me up for. The chicken is damn big la, but not very tasty as they use very little sauce, which does mean it’s a healthier option. The rice is also not very fragrant. However I would go again just for the Kai lan which seems to be quite a hit as every other table had a plate.

So $34 something split amongst 3 hungry NSFs for a humongous half chicken and a small plate of kai lan, a little pricey but worth a try.

Name: Yet Con
Serves: Chicken rice
Located: Purvis Street (connecting North Bridge Road and Beach Road)
Rating: 7 / 10
